HCC4 Network of Schools

Dear Colleagues

A couple of important requests to begin the week :

1 .Online Snapshot #2 - Reporting to Parents

Back in mid August, I was very appreciative of your responsiveness it getting information back quickly via an online survey as a Snapshot of Reporting.  I'm hoping that you will let me know some updated information in Snapshot Number 2 which can be accessed by clicking here.  You will need to use the usual password to access the survey page.  If you can do this as soon as possible but certainly by the end of the day, I would be very appreciative.

As you know, it has been some time since mid August and there have been some changes.  You would have received, last week, a Memo from the Deputy Director General, Schools: Trevor Fletcher which included Bulletin Number 8.  The key points within this were, inter alia:

  • Schools are required to issue new reports to parents by the end of 2006.
  • The Director-General’s memo (DN/06/00303) to all principals in the last week of Term 3 which:
    • outlined an important choice that schools will now have in relation to reporting student achievement: an A-E scale or word descriptors.

    • highlighted the recent direction from the Industrial Relations Commission that any restriction on the preparation of the new student reports be lifted immediately

    • announced that the Government will make legislative changes to prevent school data being accessed through FOI and used to generate “league tables”.

  • The requirements for reporting to parents can be found at:

www.det.nsw.edu.au/policies/curriculum/schools/curric_plan/PD20050290.shtml

This is an important link as it clearly outlines the policy expectations so far as the Reporting component of Curriculum, Programming, Assessing and Reporting goes, in the most up to date way.

I know that people would be well aware of the background for more than a year now and of the Eltis Review and the other inputs which have led to the introduction of this reporting format.  There are links to these documents and much much more support and information at

 http://www.curriculumsupport.education.nsw.gov.au/timetoteach/newreporting/index.htm

Don't forget that there is a link to a copy of the recent Industrial Relations Commission decision from the HCC4 blog.  If you haven't had the chance to do so, it is very clear reading.  You can visit the blog by clicking here.

The snapshot should only take a short while to complete.  Please assist me to get a picture of how your school is positioned and what support I can offer in working toward the implementation of this new reporting format.  Click here to go there now

Please complete this quick snapshot today if at all possible.
